Capacitance in parallel
Figure below shows the capacitors having all their left hand plates connected together and their night hand plates likewise. This arrangement is parallel connection of capacitors.
As Q=CV, the charges on the individual capacitors are respectively.
Q1
= C1V, Q2 = C2V, Q3 = C3V
As Q=CV, the charges on the individual capacitors are respectively.
The total
charge on system of capacitor is
Q = Q1+
Q2+ Q3 = (C1+
C2+ C3)V
And the
system is, therefore equivalent to a single capacitor of capacitance
C = Q/V = (C1+ C2+ C3)
For n
capacitor in parallel
C = C1+
C2+ C3+…………………………+Cn
